The Mountains of Scotland are high on the list of the worlds most beautiful places, add the element of winter to this and they can be truly awe inspiring!

Over our long weekend we will look at, and practice, the extra skills that are required to be able to enjoy the Scottish Winter Mountains safely. These skills will include - selecting additional equipment for Winter Mountains, safe & efficient movement on snow, using an ice axe, when and how to use crampons, emergency procedures.

We will begin each day by assessing the weather and avalanche forecasts for our area and making an informed decision as to where we will head that day.

Our main objective of the weekend will be to learn the skills and techniques that will allow us to journey into the Winter Mountains safely, and hopefully reach the summit of Britains highest mountain - Ben Nevis. Although this cannot be guaranteed by introducing the first day to get used to equipment, & the skills to use it, we have 2 further days to aim for the summit should conditions allow.

SUITABILITY: This 3 day adventure would be suitable for anybody looking to enjoy walking in the mountains in winter conditions and gain the skills and knowledge to do this safely on their own in the future. Walking in winter conditions adds extra dimensions to a mountain/hill day due to low temperatures and the physical demands of walking in snow conditions.

REQUIREMENTS: Those joining this course should have a good level of fitness adequate for the terrain, conditions and demands of the course length. They should also have appropriate clothing & equipment for the conditions (kit list will be sent on booking) to gain the most from the course.

INCLUDED: Leadership, instruction, planning and organisation and by fully qualified and experienced course/adventure leader/instructor.

NOT INCLUDED: Travel, accommodation, any other expenses such as parking fees etc.

PLEASE NOTE: We recommend taking out travel, personal accident and cancellation insurance.

Unfortunately we cannot guarantee clear views or weather conditions on the date. A summit attempt may not be possible should conditions be deemed to be unsafe/dangerous, in which case alternative routes will be considered.
